1099 Filings

Each year, business owners and real estate investors are required to file various forms of Form 1099 if certain filing requirements are met.  Here you will find a guid to determine if you need to file and information on how to do so with the help of Fowler & Co., Inc.

Form 1099MISC

Filing requirements

Payments of $600 or more for:
Services paid to non-corporate payee unless it's for legal services then it must be reported regardless.
Rents paid directly to the property owner (ie - not paid to a property management firm).

Return information to Fowler & Co., Inc.:  1/22/2018
Forms to be issued to Payee:  1/31/2018

Form 1099INT

Filing requirements

Payments of interest in excess of $10 on business obligations to non-financial payees.  For example, a business borrows from an individual and pays that individual $500 of interest.  The business must issue a 1099INT to that individual.

Forms to be issued to Payee:  1/31/2018

The IRS requires you to have a completed Form W9 on file for all vendors to whom you pay more than $600, even if you are exempt from issuing a 1099 to that vendor.  It is best practice to require a completed W9 from all vendors before paying them.  You can download a copy of the form here.
